Emby & Jellyfin Support

I was quite excited to come across Kometa as it was labeled as "A powerful tool designed to give you complete control over your media libraries." only to discover it's completely integrated with Plex. Given their current track record I've stayed far away, many users are leaving in droves, first their privacy incidents/leaks/email fiasco, then removing syncplay, and now requiring premium to stream to your own device? Plex seem determined to alienate their users and push them all to other platforms.
I understand the complexity of this undertaking, it will understandably take a lot of time and effort, if I had the time and knowledge I'd contribute to the code myself. Either way, thank you devs, I'm glad it's at least planned.

Sad to see that this is STILL not being implemented. I've since moved on to other tools that'll get the job done. A great tool but it continues to be tied down with Plex...and Plex is practically dying

Red Bulls see one of my earlier comment:
we appreciate that this is the most commonly asked for feature, but it's also the one that would effectively involve rewriting large aspects of Kometa from the ground up. We are a single-dev project with support from some of our moderation team, and we all volunteer our time to help out where we can.
Our developer has a full-time job and family commitments, so implementing this would be a massive undertaking. It is absolutely something we do want to do, it's just a case of the resource time involved in making it happen.

Any word on this? Sad and frustrating that this request has been around since July 2021, has considerably more votes than all but one request, and it still sits in limbo.
I've used Emby for years. I tried Plex, spent DAYS letting it pout over my library do all the detection for intros and credits etc. My server is at 1% cpu, a handful of mb of ram, and almost 0 usage of the RTX 4060, and Plex is slow as hell. It's constantly going up and down, I can't get it to do basic things, etc.
It is not a user friendly app. I remember when Plex first came around and it was SO much better. It just had crap tv/anime detection at the time so I went to Emby that was much better. Plex has gone way too commercial. My parents will keep it because they CAN have all their streams and things in one place, but 99% of our viewing is from our library, and Plex does not make it easy to navigate/use their system for daily consistent watching.
Kometa and Tautulli were really the ONLY reasons I even considered Plex for this go-around.
PLEASE support Emby/Jellyfin and give the rest of us some love. Plex does not deserve the loyalty you are giving them!

Sean Hull: Nothing to speak of at present, we appreciate that this is the most commonly asked for feature, but it's also the one that would effectively involve rewriting large aspects of Kometa from the ground up. Happy new year to anyone reading this :) do we have some nightly/beta to jump in to test train with this feature ?

Any updates on this? As of Oct-18-2024 the only request that has more upvotes is Web UI. Also, Plex continues to make anti-community moves, and it appears like most people beginning to host their own media are starting with Emby at this point. There's a very strong case for putting this at or near the top of the very roadmap for the continued evolution of Kometa.

Andrew Hawks (Hawker) I'm pretty sure that's not the right place to start this discussion, but I think Jellyfin is preferred over Emby since it's 100% free and backed by a bigger community (both 3rd-party software and open source contributor vice).

Benjamin Ok, you can s/Emby/Jellyfin/ in my original comment - the feature request is "Emby & Jellyfin support". The point is to get Kometa's awesome collection building, overlays, etc. into the servers that the self-hosted media community is migrating to, and not just have it be a Plex tool.

Andrew Hawks (Hawker) It's not a trivial change, and everyone involved is a volunteer.

Andrew Hawks (Hawker) Hoping to see some movement on this soon too! I think both have similar APIs there wouldn't be a reason to add one and not the other at the time of implementation anyway! I run both myself and have users on both, just no more Plex and this is the last thing I miss having!

After a frustrating back and forth with Plex about refusing to clear my account of any history and personal data, I decided to delete my account entirely and never use Plex again. To really burn the bridge, they refused to let me use my license again if I ever returned too. Zero customer retention or sympathy towards well being/privacy concerns.
Really hoping PMM detaches itself from purely being a Plex service at this point not only for personal reasons but also because it's such an awesome tool that many platforms can benefit from!
Keep up the good work and I hope to see you guys again soon!

I would love to see PMM for Jellyfin. PMM is the only thing keeping me tied to Plex
CJ
In light of the recent privacy concerns with Plex and the Discover Together features, I'm really hoping PMM adds support for Emby & Jellyfin in the near future. I want out of the Plex ecosystem and PMM is my favorite thing to come from it.

CJ: Its about time :) I would greatly appreciate the feature

I also would greatly appreciate this feature for my personal home lab !
I can't wait to use PMM with my Jellyfin

Emby is absolutely needed here. Plex is shooting itself in the foot and losing a ton of people lately. It's time to move forward instead of backwards
